The harbor and town center
Depoe Bay’s town center sits beside a working harbor, with charter boats and an oceanfront seawall along Highway 101. The city manages the harbor and publishes launch, moorage and boating information. Oregon State Parks’ Whale Watching Center is on the seawall; migrating gray whales pass in winter and spring, while feeding whales also use these waters in summer and fall.

Where to reach a sandy beach
The town’s seawall and harbor are different from a sandy beach. Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area, north of town, offers public beach access where the creek reaches an ocean cove. It also has forest paths, footbridges, picnic areas and a covered shelter. Boiler Bay is another nearby ocean viewpoint. These are useful distinctions when comparing a listing described as oceanfront with one near the beach: the public places you would use are not interchangeable.

City utilities and planning
For properties served by Depoe Bay’s water and sewer system, the city’s service page explains account setup and billing. It currently requires the utility account to stay in the property owner’s name, including when tenants occupy the home. City Planning is the starting point for questions about a particular parcel’s zoning, proposed work or intended rental use. A listing’s Depoe Bay address is a starting point; confirm the actual service provider and planning authority for the property before relying on a city rule.
